The Intercom pricing problem
Intercom charges per seat: $39/seat (Essential) up to $139/seat (Expert). A 5-person support team costs $195–$695/month before add-ons. GhostChat is $12/month flat on Pro, a 10-agent team runs on Team for $25/mo total, and the AI plan is $39/mo with the assistant included — roughly 90% cheaper. No per-seat fees, ever.

And that's before AI. Intercom's Fin agent bills $0.99 per resolution — at ~1,500 AI chats a month that's about $1,485/mo. GhostChat sells the AI assistant as one flat plan — 1,000 replies/month at $39 flat— so your AI cost doesn't scale with usage. Charging $0.99 every time the bot closes a conversation is like charging per email.
Why switch from Intercom?
No per-seat pricing
Intercom charges $39–$139 per seat. Adding a second support agent doubles your bill: two people run $78–$278/mo. On GhostChat the same two people are $12/mo flat— Pro includes 5 seats — and Team covers up to 10 team members for $25/mo. Your cost doesn't scale with your team.
58x lighter widget
Intercom's messenger loads 200–300KB and sets tracking cookies. GhostChat loads ~15KB with zero cookies. Your Lighthouse score stays perfect.
Privacy-first
Intercom tracks visitors across sessions and builds user profiles. GhostChat uses zero cookies and zero tracking. GDPR-friendly by default — no consent banners needed.
Reply from Gmail
No need to keep a dashboard open. GhostChat threads chat messages into your Gmail inbox. Reply like any email and the conversation continues live on your site.
When Intercom might be the better choice
We're honest about what Intercom does that we don't:
- •Product tours and in-app onboarding flows
- •Built-in knowledge base / help center
- •Fin AI chatbot trained on your docs
- •Ticketing system with SLA management
- •Hundreds of native integrations (Salesforce, HubSpot, etc.)
If you just need live chat — talking to customers in real-time, capturing leads, replying from your inbox — GhostChat does that for $12/mo instead of $39+/seat.
FAQ
Can GhostChat replace Intercom?
It depends on what you use Intercom for. If you primarily use Intercom for live chat with customers, GhostChat handles that at a fraction of the cost and complexity. If you rely on Intercom's product tours, in-app messaging, or knowledge base, those aren't available in GhostChat. We focus on doing live chat well, not being an all-in-one platform.
How much cheaper is GhostChat than Intercom?
Intercom starts at $39/seat/month (Essential plan) and goes up to $139/seat/month. For a 5-person team, that's $195–$695/month. GhostChat is $12/month flat on Pro, a 10-agent team runs on Team for $25/mo total, and the AI plan is $39/mo with the assistant included — roughly 90% cheaper than Intercom. Never per seat.
Does GhostChat support team chat like Intercom?
Yes. Pro ($12/mo) includes 5 seats, and Team ($25/mo) covers up to 10 team members on one flat price — the AI assistant is its own $39/mo plan (everything in Team, plus the assistant). Each agent can reply to conversations, and customers see which team member is responding. Push notifications and email alerts ensure no message goes unanswered.
Will GhostChat slow down my site like Intercom does?
No. We measured Intercom in August 2026: 271KB on page load, plus a further 833KB the moment a visitor opens the chat. GhostChat loads ~15KB with zero cookies. In Lighthouse testing, Intercom typically drops scores by 5–15 points while GhostChat has zero measurable impact.
