Release 1.0.0

Date: October 3, 2026

New organization:

  • rose deprecated at v1.1.8 and reclassified as an example
  • Smooth Emulator moved to its own repository

New capabilities and notable changes:

  • updated BAND-compatible Bfrescox at v0.0.2-alpha, which officially integrates template functionality and provides more examples.

  • updated BAND-compatible jitr to v3.0.1, which provides significant interface, physics, and feature updates, as well as a new documentation website.

  • updated BAND-compatible LCGP at v1.1.1, which extends the stochastic emulator to train on data with replications.

  • added BAND-compatible mooGP at v1.0.0, A Gaussian process surrogate model for emulating stochastic simulation outputs.

  • added BAND-compatible OpenBT at v1.2.0, C++, Python, and R packages implementing Bayesian tree models, including regression, model mixing, sensitivity analysis and multiobjective optimization. A subset of this was originally included in BAND as a backend to Taweret.

  • updated BAND-compatible parMOO to v0.5.1, which improves the MOOP class and makes other internal changes, including to the unit tests.

  • updated BAND-compatible pybmc at v0.4.1, which adds heteroscedastic error models, a package-wide seeded RNG for reproducible sampling, as well as fixes to the simplex sampler and evaluation routines.

  • updated BAND-compatible Smooth Emulator to v1.0.0-beta, with bug fixes and clarification of documentation.

  • updated BAND-compatible surmise to v1.0.0, which improves user control of RNG usage, improves sampler integration, and fixes bugs.

  • updated BAND-compatible Taweret to v1.3.0, which introduces Gaussian process model mixing and uses OpenBT instead of the deprecated OpenBTMixing package.

  • added guidelines on AI/LLM use and Framework contributions.

  • added guidance on how developers who wish to no longer maintain their software should indicate that within the Framework.

  • BANDsoftware_uses now includes rebuilt example that shows how updated BFrescoX and surmise can be combined to perform calibration of a breakup reaction.

Known issues:

  • The bandframework repository contains different content, including Jupyter notebooks, that could be presented to the public via a single BAND framework Jupyter notebook. This might simplify reviewing since verifying that books run through could be accomplished by github actions.

Release 0.5.0

:Date: December 22, 2025

New organization:

  • Refactored the bandframework into BAND software, BAND software uses, and BAND examples.

New capabilities and notable changes:

  • added BAND-compatible LCGP at v0.2.1, a tool for latent component Gaussian process emulation for multivariate stochastic simulations.
  • added BAND-compatible ModelDiscrepancy at v1.1.0, an example Bayesian framework for model-data comparison that accounts for theoretical uncertainties.
  • added BAND-compatible neutron-rich-bmm at v0.1.0, an example of Gaussian process Bayesian model mixing for the dense matter equation of state.
  • added BAND-compatible pybmc at v0.2.4, a tool for performing Bayesian model combination on various predictive models.
  • added BAND-compatible Bfrescox at v0.0.1-alpha, A Python wrapper for the Frescox coupled reaction channels code.
  • updated BAND-compatible jitr to v2.5.1, which fixes bugs in calculating some observables; also adds mass tables, a Reaction class, many examples, and other functionality.
  • updated BAND-compatible rose to v1.1.7, which includes minor bug fixes.
  • updated BAND-compatible SAMBA to v1.2.1, which fixes some GP mixing bugs and fixes rendering of the documentation.
  • updated BAND-compatible surmise to v0.4.0, which improves coverage of test suite, integrates Jupyter Book usage examples, and reassigns research (not fully-tested) code.
  • updated BAND-compatible Taweret to v1.2.0, which updates the infrastructure and notebooks, and improves the documentation.
  • updated BAND-compatible PUQ to v0.1.1, which extends hetGPy as a base surrogate module and includes two novel sequential design strategies for stochastic simulation models.
  • updated BAND example BMEX to v0.1.4, which includes minor quality of life improvements and bug fixes.
  • updated BAND software use case from BAND Camp 2021 to directly include Bfrescox tutorials.

:Known issues:

  • We do not yet have a stated policy on the use/documentation of AI tools.
  • If one installs all BAND packages in a particular order (and in a single virtual environment, etc.), there may be an incompatibility with the Eigen dependency; fixes are being explored.
  • Notebooks demonstrating the use of the Frescox coupled reaction channels code in BANDsoftware_uses directory need to be updated so that they employ BAND-compatible Bfrescox.
  • The bandframework repository contains different content, including Jupyter notebooks, that could be presented to the public via a single BAND framework Jupyter notebook. This might simplify reviewing since verifying that books run through could be accomplished by github actions.
  • The BRICK tutorial notebook does not run correctly unless AZURE2 is installed at the command line. However, AZURE2 at the command line is currently only available in its Linux-compatible version. Linux users who wish to run the BRICK tutorial can request access to AZURE2 here, and then install it so it runs at the command line.
