Quick Start

Get up and running with cDox in a few minutes.

Welcome to cDox

cDox is a simple, private document and spreadsheet editor. No Google accounts, no tracking, no surprises. Your documents belong entirely to you.

This guide will walk you through creating your first page, formatting text, working with spreadsheets, and sharing your work. You'll be productive in a few minutes.

Create your first page

Look at the bottom-right corner of your dashboard. You'll see a round + button. Click it, choose New Page, type a title and click Create. Your new page opens and you can start writing.

There's no "Save" button. cDox automatically saves your work continuously as you type. If you close your browser and come back later, your page will be exactly how you left it.

Tip

To rename your page later, click its title at the top of the editor. The title is what shows up in your dashboard and when you share the page.

Format your writing

The toolbar at the top of the editor has everything you need to format your text. You'll find buttons for bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, headings (H1, H2, H3), bullet lists, numbered lists, task lists, block quotes, code blocks, highlighting, and links.

To make text bold, for example, select it and click the B button in the toolbar. You can also use the shortcut Ctrl+ B.

Tip

The most useful keyboard shortcuts: Ctrl+ B for bold, Ctrl+ I for italic, Ctrl+ Shift+ K to insert a link, and Ctrl+ Z to undo.

Note

Highlighting comes in two colors: yellow and red. Great for drawing attention to important passages or marking text for review.

Create a sheet

Sheets work just like the spreadsheets you already know. Click the + button and choose New Sheet to create one. Give it a title and you get a blank grid ready for your data.

Click any cell and start typing. Use Tab to move to the next cell and Enter to move down a row. If you go past the last column or last row, the grid expands automatically.

For formulas, start by typing = in a cell. For example, =SUM(A1:A10) adds up the values from A1 to A10. The formula bar above the grid always shows you the content of the active cell.

Tip

You can import a CSV or Excel (.xlsx) file directly into cDox. It becomes a sheet with all your data. See Import & Export.

Share your work

Open a page or sheet you own and click the Share icon in the top-right corner (on a phone it's in the ⋮ menu). Make it public and you'll get a unique link you can send to anyone. Visitors see it read-only, without needing an account.

You can make it private again at any time, and turn on Show avatar to put your name and photo on the shared page. To edit together instead, invite collaborators: see Collaboration.

Pro

Free accounts get up to 3 public links. Upgrade to Pro for unlimited links, more storage, image uploads and Pro fonts.

Stay organized

As you create pages and sheets, you'll want to keep them in folders. Click the + button and choose New Folder: it's created inside the folder you're in. On a computer you can also select several documents at once and move, download or delete them together. See Organizing.

Tip

Dashboard shortcuts on a computer: N for a new page, I to import, F for a new folder.
