Accessibility DevTools is an accessibility checker Chrome extension from TestMu AI (formerly LambdaTest). It adds accessibility developer tools to the Chrome DevTools panel, runs on axe-core, marks failing elements on the page, and explains how to fix each one.

What is an accessibility extension?

An accessibility extension is a browser add-on that checks the page you are viewing against accessibility rules such as WCAG. It reports missing alt text, low contrast, unlabeled form fields, and similar issues with no setup, which makes it the quickest way to check a page while you build or review it.

Is the Accessibility DevTools extension free?

Yes. It is free to install from the Chrome Web Store, where it is listed as TestMu AI Accessibility DevTools. Sign in with your TestMu AI account inside the panel to run scans and save reports.

Is this the same extension as LambdaTest Accessibility DevTools?

Yes. LambdaTest rebranded to TestMu AI in January 2026, and the extension now carries the TestMu AI name. It is the same Chrome Web Store listing, still published by LambdaTest, Inc.

Which WCAG versions does the extension check?

WCAG 2.0, WCAG 2.1 at Level A, AA, or AAA, and WCAG 2.2 at Level A or AA, chosen in the extension settings. WCAG 2.1 AA is the default, best-practice rules are optional, and every issue links to the success criterion it fails.

Can I use Accessibility DevTools for Section 508 reviews?

Yes. The Revised Section 508 Standards incorporate WCAG 2.0 Level AA, so choose WCAG 2.0 in the extension settings and run a Full Page Scan on each page under review. Export the results as a PDF or CSV report to attach to the review record.

What scan types does Accessibility DevTools support?

Full Page, Partial Page, Multi-Page, Workflow, and Keyboard scans. Workflow scans follow clicks and page changes, and the keyboard scan checks focus order and keyboard traps.

How do I install and use Accessibility DevTools?

Add it from the Chrome Web Store, open the Inspect panel, select the TestMu AI Accessibility DevTools tab, and sign in. Run a Full Page Scan, then click any issue to locate the element. Setup is covered in the Accessibility DevTools documentation.

Does it work on staging, local, or password-protected pages?

Yes. The extension runs inside your browser, so it scans any page you can open, including localhost, staging, and pages behind a login. Nothing needs to be publicly accessible.

Does Accessibility DevTools work on single-page apps?

Yes. A Workflow Scan captures modals, form errors, and route changes that a URL-only scan misses. For hash-routed apps, turn on the Fragment Identifier option in the extension settings so each route is reported as its own page.

What can an accessibility extension not catch?

Rules can confirm that alt text exists but not that it is meaningful, and they cannot judge whether reading order makes sense or whether screen reader announcements are clear. Needs-review flags point you to those items, and a Keyboard Scan plus a screen reader pass covers the rest.

How is Accessibility DevTools different from accessibility automation?

The extension is for on-demand checks while you build or review a page. Accessibility Automation runs the same rules inside Selenium, Playwright, or Cypress on every CI build, and accessibility scheduling re-scans your live site on a timetable.
