    To use the Google/Verily screening program to see if you're eligible for COVID-19 testing, you have to create a Google account or connect it your existing Google account. This is both a barrier to entry and a major privacy problem

    According to French reports the Guiana Space Centre (CSG) will be closed due to spreading of coronovirus (several cases in French Guiana already). All launch campaigns e.g. Vega multi-sat flight (March 24) & Soyuz/Falcon Eye (April 14) will be suspended.

    Corona virus as an excuse? Mutating viruses have always been with us. A rational economic system would have learned to plan and manage them. Capitalism failed to learn because profit was/is its #1 priority. Capitalism caused today’s disaster, not the latest virus.

    An Italian hospital ran out of ICU valves. A local biz brought a 3D printer to the hospital, redesigned & produced the valves in a few hours. “At the time of writing, 10 patients are accompanied in breathing by a machine that uses a 3D printed valve.”

    this is based on a true story, wherein people are encoding an anime at ~2.3gb per episode, a bitrate that cannot possibly be justified for an artform that's mostly flat expanses of solid color

    imo the best prevention against video piracy is to have a fanbase so rabid & off their collective rockers that they keep trying to one up each other on "quality" releases, causing every single torrent to balloon in size and only render correctly with a special combo of renderers.

    it uses the TI chip off their old LED watches, which means that it has to digitally "push" a button to get the chip to output the time (since LED watches didn't stay on 24/7, you had to push a button), and that time comes out in the form of 7-segment display signals.
