Frequently asked questions

What's an AcroForm?

AcroForm is the standard PDF form format — text inputs, checkboxes, radio groups, dropdowns. Most fillable PDFs use it. (XFA forms are not supported.)

Are my files uploaded?

No. The PDF is parsed in your browser via pdf-lib. Nothing leaves your device.

Can I edit the values?

This tool is read-only. To fill a PDF form programmatically, use TemplateFox's API or generate a new PDF from a template instead.

Why does my PDF show no fields?

Either the PDF has no AcroForm fields (just a flat layout), or it's an XFA form (rendered by Adobe but not standard PDF). Try opening it in Adobe Acrobat to confirm.

What if I want to generate filled PDFs at scale?

TemplateFox lets you design a PDF template once and fill it from JSON — far cleaner than maintaining AcroForm fields. See our API docs.

Can I export the field list?

Yes. Use the JSON or CSV export buttons after the table loads — handy for handing the schema off to a developer or importing into a spreadsheet.
