FloatMe is a zero-latency, perfectly round floating camera preview designed specifically to sit gracefully over your work while screen recording, presenting, or streaming. Built strictly with native Apple frameworks (SwiftUI, AppKit, AVFoundation), it uses practically zero CPU overhead while ensuring your face stays persistently on top of everything—even full-screen slide presentations.
- True Floating Window: Operates at the
NSWindow.Level.screenSaverdepth, guaranteeing it stays on top of Keynote, full-screen IDEs, and cross-desktop spaces. - Dynamic Digital Zoom: Frame your face perfectly using a digital magnification slider (up to 300%) without moving your laptop lid.
- Edge Feathering (Gaussian Blur): Strip away harsh circular borders in favor of a smooth, professional studio-fade edge effect.
- Ghost Mode (Click-Through): Never get blocked by your own face again! Toggling this on forces your mouse clicks to phase right through the camera feed and strike the application underneath.
- Studio Monochromatic Filter: Instantly strip the color from your live feed for a premium, distraction-free grayscale aesthetic.
- Menu Bar Control: Stripped entirely out of your Dock. FloatMe runs as a lightweight underlying system agent controlled conveniently from a dropdown in your top Mac Menu Bar.
FloatMe is compiled directly from source using native swift compilation. No Xcode installation or massive IDE downloads are strictly required—just the basic macOS command line tools!
- macOS 13.0 or later (Apple Silicon or Intel)
- Command Line Tools for Xcode (can be installed via
xcode-select --install) - A webcam (
builtInWideAngleCamerais preferred by default to avoid Continuity Camera hanging).
Because FloatMe is written to be as raw and lightweight as possible, it compiles seamlessly via a single bash instruction.
-
Clone the repository Open your terminal and clone the repository onto your local machine:
git clone https://github.com/yadev64/floatme.git cd floatme -
Trigger the Build Script FloatMe leverages a custom build-script to instantly inject the
.icnsartwork, generate theInfo.plist(securing your Apple Camera Permissions), and compile the raw.appbundle:bash build.sh
-
Launch the Utility The script instantly outputs a self-contained
FloatMe.appdirectly into the current directory. You can run it from the command line:open FloatMe.app
Note: On first launch, macOS will present a dialog asking for Camera Access. Click "OK" to allow FloatMe to capture your video feed!
Once launched, a perfect circular preview of your camera will spawn naturally with a small offset at the bottom-left of your screen.
- Reposition: Simply click securely anywhere inside the circle and drag it around your screen! (Unless Ghost Mode is active).
- Access Preferences: Look at the top right of your Mac's Menu Bar for a small camera badge. Click it, then hit Preferences...
- To Quit: You can hit "Quit FloatMe" safely from the native Menu bar dropdown.
If you wish to change the system tray icon, simply overwrite icon.png in the source folder before running bash build.sh. The compiler automatically transforms the PNG into Apple's multi-resolution .icns array under the hood.
No massive web wrappers, no background electron tasks. Just pure macOS swift execution.
