Care Capacity App (Godot)
Core Principle
You don’t need to relearn how to care indiscriminately — you need to understand the limits of your capacity to care.
This application models care as a finite, consumable resource rather than an infinite moral expectation.
What This App Does
Starts each session with a fixed care capacity (default: 100)
Allows users to create actions with arbitrary cost
Each action reduces available capacity
Capacity cannot go below zero
Visual state changes occur as capacity decreases
Key Idea
Care is not binary (you either care or you don’t).
It behaves like a budget under constraint:
Every action has a cost
Every decision is an allocation
Overextension leads to depletion
This system makes that invisible process visible and interactive.
Visual Model
The app includes an animation-based state system:
Capacity is divided into 20-point ranges
Each range corresponds to a different animation state
Transitions between states are animated (not instant)
Example states:
100–81 → Stable
80–61 → Slight strain
60–41 → Noticeable fatigue
40–21 → High strain
20–1 → Critical
0 → Depleted
These are not just cosmetic—they represent qualitative shifts in system behavior.
What This Is NOT
This is not:
A tool for avoiding responsibility
A justification for emotional withdrawal
A replacement for judgment or ethics
What This IS
This is:
A constraint visualization tool
A behavior modeling system
A way to explore bounded rationality in care decisions
Design Philosophy
Most systems implicitly assume infinite care capacity.
Reality does not.
This project is built on three assumptions:
-
Capacity is finite
-
Costs are real
-
Sustainability requires limits
Takeaway
The goal is not to care less.
The goal is to:
Care deliberately, within limits, so that care remains sustainable instead of self-destructive.
Future Extensions
Time-based regeneration systems
Dynamic cost scaling under stress
Persistent state tracking
Game mechanics and narrative integration
Summary
This app turns an abstract psychological reality into a visible, interactive system.
It doesn’t teach you how to care.
It shows you what happens when you don’t understand your limits.
