An AI agent that lives in your terminal. It reads and edits files, runs shell commands, searches the web, drives git, and remembers what you told it between sessions.
Written in Go, ships as one binary, no runtime to install.
Download the binary for your platform from the
latest release,
put it on your PATH, and run aurora.
| Platform | File |
|---|---|
| Windows x64 | aurora-windows-amd64.exe |
| Linux x64 | aurora-linux-amd64 |
| Linux ARM64 | aurora-linux-arm64 |
| macOS Apple Silicon | aurora-darwin-arm64 |
| macOS Intel | aurora-darwin-amd64 |
Or let the script pick for you. It downloads the release binary into ~/bin
and falls back to building from source if no release matches your platform:
curl -sL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/madgodinc/aurora-cli/main/install.sh | bashBuilding from source needs Go 1.24 or newer:
git clone https://github.com/madgodinc/aurora-cli.git
cd aurora-cli
go build -o aurora .Aurora talks to a server that holds your account, your quota and your memory.
The default is https://api.madgodinc.net, which runs a local Qwen3.6-35B on
the author's hardware and is open to register.
On the first launch you get a sign-in screen: register a login and password, or
sign in if you already have one. Skipping it works too, but memory will not
follow you to another machine. /login gets you back to that screen later.
To point Aurora at something else, set AURORA_SERVER to any endpoint that
speaks the Anthropic Messages API or the OpenAI chat-completions API:
AURORA_SERVER=http://127.0.0.1:8080 auroraANTHROPIC_BASE_URL and ANTHROPIC_API_KEY work as well, so an existing
Anthropic setup needs no new variables.
Twenty-two tools are available to every account:
Bash Read Write Edit MultiEdit Grep Glob Tree Diff Git
RunTest NotebookEdit WebSearch WebFetch Download Clipboard
Process Agent TaskCreate TaskUpdate TaskGet Remember
Four more appear when Aurora finds an SSH alias for the server it talks to:
RemoteShell, Docker, ServerStatus, ModelSwitch. Those are for whoever
runs the server, and they stay hidden from everyone else.
Agent spawns an isolated sub-agent with its own context, which keeps a long
search or a file sweep out of the main conversation.

aurora -p "summarise the changes in this repo"One prompt, the answer on stdout, no TUI. Useful in scripts and pipes.
Settings live in ~/.aurora/cli_config.json. The file is written on first run
and holds your server URL, model name, account token and username. It is yours
alone: keep it out of git and off shared machines.
| Variable | Effect |
|---|---|
AURORA_SERVER |
Server URL, overrides the config file |
ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL |
Same thing, for existing Anthropic setups |
ANTHROPIC_API_KEY |
API key for servers that want one |
AURORA_USERNAME |
How Aurora addresses you |
Run the secret scanner before you commit:
git config core.hooksPath .githooksThat points git at .githooks/pre-commit, which refuses a commit that carries
a password, an API token or a private key. The same scan runs on every push in
CI. A password once sat in this repository's agent prompt for months, so the
check is there to make sure the next one never lands.
