Support for using a Classic Load Balancer for the Kubernetes API, deprecated since kOps 1.26, is removed in kOps 1.37:

  • spec.api.loadBalancer.class: Classic now fails validation, with a message pointing at the CLB to NLB migration guide. Existing clusters must migrate to a Network Load Balancer using kOps 1.36 or earlier before upgrading.
  • The long-deprecated kops create cluster --api-loadbalancer-class flag is removed; new AWS clusters always use a Network Load Balancer.
  • The API CLB modeling is removed (awsmodel, DNS target, ASG and Spotinst attachments, kubeconfig/status lookups).
  • The ClassicLoadBalancer task is reduced to what the instance group externalLoadBalancers[].loadBalancerName feature needs; attaching instance groups to externally-managed CLBs remains supported.
  • kops delete cluster still deletes CLBs of existing clusters.

if this field is now unused, can we deprecate/remove it?
