21.x 21.x
20.x 20.x
19.x 19.x

πŸ“‹ Prerequisites

This library requires Angular Material to be installed in your project, as it uses Material Design components like mat-form-field, mat-autocomplete, and mat-input.

If you don't have Angular Material installed:

ng add @angular/material

@angular/material and @angular/forms are peer dependencies of this library (along with @angular/core and @angular/common).

πŸš€ Getting started

  1. Once your Angular application setup is ready, install the ngx-country-selector library using the following command:
npm i ngx-country-selector
  1. Add the CSS Either import the CSS directly to styles.scss file

    @import  "node_modules/ngx-country-selector/assets/styles.css";

    Or, add CSS file in angular.json in the styles array in the build section

     "styles": [
               "node_modules/ngx-country-selector/assets/styles.css",
               "src/styles.scss"
             ],

  2. Import CountrySelectorLibraryComponent import CountrySelectorLibraryComponent in module where you want to add the countries dropdown, it may be app-module, some lazy loaded module or a standalone component

      imports: [
     CountrySelectorLibraryComponent
     ],

  3. Add the country component to the component where is being used

Properties and their usage

####The below table explains what all Input properties country dropdown accepts and their usage

allowedCountryCodes Type: string array(string[]),Default value: [] Only countries which will be displayed in the country list
selectedCountryConfig Type: IConfig (see table below for IConfig properties), Default value: {} Provides config for the selected country, and controls what all will be displayed. Ex. if the user do not want to display flag for the selected item, can be controlled with this property(refer to config table for details)
countryListConfig Type: IConfig (see table below for IConfig properties), Default value: {} Provides config for the country list, and controls what all will be displayed in the country list. Ex. if the user do not want to see flag or dial code or name in the country list, can be controlled with this property(refer to config table for details)
label Type: string Default value: '' `mat-form-field` label's text
placeHolder Type: string Default value: 'Select country' To change the default placeholder label.
hint Type: string Default value: undefined Hint text shown below the field.
appearance Type: 'fill' | 'outline' Default value: 'outline' `mat-form-field` appearance.
extendWidth Type: boolean Default value: false Makes the field take the full width of its container.
panelWidth Type: string Default value: '' Width of the country list panel, e.g. '320px'.
customNaming Type: { [code: string]: string } Default value: {} Overrides country names by lower-case country code, e.g. { gb: 'United Kingdom' }.
class, name, tabIndex Type: string, string, number Passed through to the inner input element. With Signal Forms, `name` is set from the bound field.
loading Type: boolean Default value: false Whether the component is loading.
readonly Type: boolean Default value: false Whether the component is read only. With Signal Forms this is driven by the schema (`readonly(...)`) and cannot be bound next to `[formField]`; use uiReadonly for that case.
uiReadonly Type: boolean Default value: false Makes the component read only regardless of the form state. Works with every forms API.
disabled Type: boolean Default value: false Whether the component is disabled. Set automatically by Signal Forms and Reactive Forms.
clearable Type: boolean Default value: false To show clear button.
required Type: boolean Default value: false Whether the component is required. Set automatically from the form: `required(...)` in a Signal Forms schema or `Validators.required` on a `FormControl`. Shows the required marker on the label.
error Type: string Default value: '' The message shown when the field is touched and invalid. A message defined in a Signal Forms schema takes precedence.

Events

onCountryChange Country type ICountry returns the selected country

Signal Forms

Recommended for new applications:

import { form, FormField, required } from '@angular/forms/signals';
import { signal } from '@angular/core';

// Define your model
type LoginModel = {
  username: string;
  password: string;
  country: ICountry | null;
};

// Create signal-based form
vm = signal<LoginModel>({
  username: '',
  password: '',
  country: null
});

loginForm = form(this.vm, (p) => {
  required(p.username, { message: 'Username is required' });
  required(p.password, { message: 'Password is required' });
  required(p.country, { message: 'Country is required' });
});
<!-- Import the FormField directive in your component -->
<lib-country-selector
  [formField]="loginForm.country"
  [allowedCountryCodes]="allowedCountryCode()"
  [countryListConfig]="config"
  [selectedCountryConfig]="selectedConfig"
  [loading]="loading()"
  label="Country"
  [clearable]="true"
  [customNaming]="{ gb: 'United Kingdom' }"
  (onCountryChange)="onCountryChange($event)"
  error="Country is required"
></lib-country-selector>

Key Benefits:

  • ✨ Reactive updates with signals
  • πŸš€ Better performance with fine-grained reactivity
  • 🎯 Type-safe form models
  • πŸ”§ Automatic validation and error handling

Upgrading from 21.x: Signal Forms became stable in Angular 22 and the directive was renamed. Replace the Field import with FormField and [field]="..." with [formField]="...".

Reactive Forms (Traditional)

For applications using traditional reactive forms:

loginForm = new FormGroup({
  username: new FormControl('', [Validators.required]),
  password: new FormControl('', Validators.required),
  // a value that only carries the code is enough, the component looks the country up
  country: new FormControl({value: {code:'in'} as ICountry | null, disabled: false},
    Validators.required), // the validator also drives the required marker and the error
});
<lib-country-selector
  [allowedCountryCodes]="allowedCountryCode()"
  [countryListConfig]="config"
  [selectedCountryConfig]="selectedConfig"
  [loading]="loading()"
  [readonly]="readonly() || loading()"
  label="Country"
  [clearable]="!shouldCountryLocked()"
  [customNaming]="{ gb: 'United Kingdom'}"
  formControlName="country"
  (onCountryChange)="onCountryChange($event)"
  error="Country is required"
></lib-country-selector>

Note: The component supports both Signal Forms and traditional Reactive Forms (formControl / formControlName), allowing for gradual migration. Disabled, touched, required and error state are picked up from the FormControl automatically, so no extra inputs are needed.
