Colour presets can be called from the yaml file with extensions.GRADIENTS[<preset name>]. * Added function _apply_gradient_background() to the HorizonPlot class. This adds a vertical colour gradient to the background of the plot. e.g. to simulate twilight lighting in the sky. The function takes the bounds of the figure's axes, creates a set of background axes, creates a colourmap and adds it to the background axes using imshow(). Added an if loop to _init_plot() so that _apply_gradient_background() is applied if a color_stop list is provided when HorizonPlot is instantiated. * A yaml file containing the color_stops for each gradient preset. There are six presets in total. Each preset contains a range of colours and each colour is listed with its position in the gradient. * A HorizonPlot example that uses the pre_dawn gradient preset to plot a horizon map looking south from Stonehaugh, England. * Added an example card of a horizon gradient plot to the examples.md list page. * Created horizon-gradient.md to list the example horizon gradient plot in horizon_gradient.py * Removed comment about setting background transparency from the python file and moves it to the horizon-gradient.md file. * Renaming color_stops variable to gradient_preset for better clarity. * Linted files after failed test-lint-build. All minor changes: some missing commas, mixed "", and extra newlines. * Added N=750 to LinearSegmentedColormap.from_list() in _apply_gradient_background(). This improves gradient smoothness. Minimised the size of the gradient array in the same function to improve efficiency. * Altered the _apply_gradient_background function: - Used pcolormesh instead of imshow to plot the gradient as this drastically improved export time. - Changed how set self.ax.zorder was set to improve export time. - Discovered that changing the altitude caused unexpected axes mis-alignment so added an event driven function such that the gradient background axes now resize with the main axes when it is drawn. * Re-ordered the gradient presets so that they match the pcolormesh direction of using cmaps. Changed shade of orange in nautical_twilight to make it softer. * Added a function to create a hashable image of the gradient background to horizon_checks.py. Added the hashes for the new image to the hashlock.yml file. * Removed extra newlines. * Created a Mixin class, GradientBackgroundMixin, to handle the adding of a gradient background to rectangular and radial plots. This can be inherited by MapPlot, HorizonPlot, and OpticPlot. * Adding .gradients to plotters/__init__.py * Adding the GradientBackgroundMixin to the plot class and added an if statement to plot a gradient background when a gradient preset is provided. Also added function that checks what shape gradient should be used for a plot (e.g. radial/vertical) * Commented out libraries only used by commented out code (non-working camera rotation patch). * Updated gradient hash to match new mixin. * re-applied black formatter. * Added radial gradient presets. These have the same colours as the vertical gradients but in different ratios that look better in a radial format. * gradient_preset.yml: Added mollweide gradient presents to the list. * horizon-gradient.md example file, added a line noting the ability to use radial and mollweide as well as vertical gradients and a note on how to add a custom gradient. * gradients.py: Refactored docstrings to be briefer. Added a method to replace the elliptic mollweide gradient with a galactic coordinate gradient. Removed the commented out camera optic method. * map.py: Refactored _find_gradient_shape(self) so radial and mollweide projections return shapes, while everything else defaults to a vertical gradient. Moved calling apply_gradient_background() to _init_plot(). * added a hash checks for: zenith, optic binos, optic scope, map planets, and map mollweide. * add to zenith * use background color prop * docs * rename * oblique mercator * fix tick marks * examples and oblique mercator * examples * hash checks * date * lint * better * no camera gradient * format * fix * docs * update example * adjust * gradient * adjust * cas * bump versions * python 3.10 --------- Co-authored-by: Niphredil123 <168342465+Niphredil123@users.noreply.github.com>
