Ondo Finance and Kakaopay Securities signed an MoU to expand international access to South Korean listed equities.
Tokenization News
Ondo Finance has signed a memorandum of understanding with Kakaopay Securities to expand international access to South Korean listed equities. The agreement is designed to widen the pool of overseas investors who can gain exposure to Korean companies.
The two companies signed the MOU on Sept 28 at Kakaopay Securities' headquarters in Pangyo. Chung Inyoung, Executive Vice President of Kakaopay Securities, and Matthieu de Vergnes, Managing Director and Global Head of Institutional at Ondo Finance, represented their respective firms at the signing.
Three Areas of Cooperation
The MoU outlines three areas the companies will pursue together. These include building a framework for distributing Korean equities internationally, conducting joint research into tokenization infrastructure, and forming a joint task force to evaluate business opportunities for retail investors outside South Korea.
As an initial step, the two firms will build a framework for sourcing and holding the underlying Korean shares that could eventually back tokenized products. Kakaopay Securities will operate a foreign investor omnibus account to manage the sourcing, custody, and administration of those shares. The companies will jointly research the technical infrastructure needed for token issuance and redemption, along with balance management and reconciliation processes.

No Commercial Launch Confirmed Yet
Whether and when any tokenized stock products will actually launch remains undecided. The companies said that decision depends on legal and regulatory considerations in both South Korea and the jurisdictions where the products might be distributed, along with supervisory guidance and investor protection standards.
Chung said global demand for exposure to Korean companies keeps rising, but access for overseas retail investors has remained limited. She said the partnership pairs Ondo's international distribution network with Kakaopay Securities' domestic market infrastructure to try to turn that access into a working service.
De Vergnes described South Korea as one of the most advanced digital asset markets globally and called it an important market for Ondo's efforts to widen access to tokenized real-world assets.
The companies plan to form a joint task force later in 2026 to build out operational frameworks for sourcing and custody, and to continue research into the infrastructure needed to support tokenized equities. No timeline for a commercial product has been set.
