This is how we brought a "tool" from outer space to life. Made possible with the collective creativity of three humans. PJ Eales, Marchand Ebersohn & Andrew Shaw This is our entry into the #RunwayBigAdContest 💡First task, nail the idea, the script and the gags. The humor was just as important as the picture. Only once we were happy with that did we bring AI into the mix. AI tools are nothing if you have no idea, no direction. 🎞️ Then the camera language was established, loose & handheld, always hunting for the target. And the look of the film, I wanted a richly textured film stock feel, halation, warm bloom & a creamy roll-off. Sun always behind the cast, to get that rim light. 🧠 All of this became the style-prefix wrapper for every prompt, it's my director’s treatment, just written for a machine. Built with love in Anthropic Claude & using my hyper-tweaked director’s skill to create the prompt intelligence and framework. 🖼️ Shots were blocked out in Figma Weave, locations generated, character and prop sheets confirmed. Generated with Nano Banana & ChatGPT image 2.0. All handled collaboratively in Miro. 🧪 Prompts were given a test drive and adjusted until the picture and humor was locked. 🧔♂️➡️👽 And then, we made the call to pivot from what was initially a human main character to an Alien one. A choice only a human could make. The project was moved into Runway, using their project feature to manage all of the assets. And Workflow, where each sequence was generated using Seedance 2.0 and their useful node based system. Great way to generate multiple videos in Runway. Any visual hiccups were then fixed in Runway’s Aleph 2.0. 🎙️VO was recorded by the team and used as a guide to drive the voice in ElevenLabs. 🎵 Music was courtesy of Epidemic Sound. 💰 All in all, it only cost roughly10,000 credits in Runway to build, with an output of 1080p. “A tool from outer space” is our entry into Runway’s “Another Big Ad Contest for Products That Don’t Exist”. The brief was to show how, with a Jack Multi-Tool, most of life's small disasters don't need an expert, just the right tool. So, we decided to enlist the help of Frank, an alien who is arguably our galaxy’s biggest tool. In the spot we watch as he manages to upset his community, yet still gets invited back again and again because of his Jack Multi-Tool, a tool so advanced it might as well be from outer space. 2016 : We had more people around us. 2020 : The circle got smaller. 2026 : We have more ai tools than ever… but somehow, we’re sitting alone! ChatGPT. Claude. Gemini. Perplexity. Grok. Photoshop. Pinterest. LinkedIn. Behance. Miro. We have tools for almost everything. Design. Writing. Research. Networking. Brainstorming. Content Creation. But here's the uncomfortable part: More tools don't automatically mean more connection. Ai can help us work faster. Design better. Think deeper. Create more. But it can't replace genuine relationships. A founder still needs people. A coach still needs conversations. A designer still needs other designers. And all of us still need a community. So maybe the goal isn't to use more tools. Maybe it's to use technology without becoming isolated by it. Use Ai to create more. Use LinkedIn to connect more. Use your tools to build something meaningful with people not just for people! Because in the end, your biggest advantage might not be the tools you have… …it might be the people you build relationships with 🤝

'Slop or Not' takes summer in the Cotswolds! Join us for strange hands, closed eyes, and full hearts. We tested the image gen software for Midjourney vs. ChatGPT vs. Higgsfield vs. Canva. The prompt is intentionally basic, so as to mimic a real, busy human who doesn’t have time to scroll through stock, reconfigure a render, or prompt-build for an hour. 🧚 Creatives, save this for the next time you’re getting down about AI taking your job. 👉 Now, scroll through to see which AI was best at giving me a campaign-worthy image on the first try. When did we decide that a chat box was the best channel for creativity? This year has been dominated by vibecoding tools that promise to build products out of your written descriptions -- a chorus of “bring your ideas to life” heard across the market. But what about ideas that are pre-verbal? When are we constraining the possibility for brainstorming and exploration by forcing our vision into pointed sentences? There’s a hierarchy to how pure our ideas remain depending on expressive channel, and every layer of translation loses a bit of signal: Instinct —> hands —> speech —> writing The answer to my opening question, of course, is that we didn’t choose chat boxes. We’re in an awkward growth phase of AI-powered creativity where prompting is the best we’ve got. The strongest products solving this today are blending all channels: hands (traditional direct editing, drawing), words (chat box), even speech (dictation). The winner will be the product that balances them all with a UX that feels seamless, preserves that creative flow state, and gets you from zero to one quickly without straying from your original vision. I almost hired a designer for a pitch deck. Then I tried something else. 3 AI tools. One evening. Here’s what I actually did: Started with ChatGPT. I didn’t “prompt engineer” anything. Just explained the business like I would to a friend. What they do. Why it matters. What’s the one number that counts. That became the structure: mission, services, proof, the ask. Then Canva. I can create different avatars for my real estate business, Ask8, Onsight, or whatever brand I'm working on. And I can often get the whole thing moving **faster than it takes some people to decide where to put their phone, fix the lighting, do 14 practice takes, hate all 14 of them, and give up.** 😂 I get it. A lot of people are camera shy. But here's the part I think businesses and real estate agents need to understand: **Video isn't going away because you don't like being on camera.** Would I rather have a client make authentic videos themselves? Absolutely. But if the choice is between an **AI version of you showing up consistently** or your audience **never seeing or hearing from you at all…** I'll take the AI version.
