Here's what I saw: → Intelligence per dollar needs fixing. Agents regularly burn 1M+ tokens on simple tasks. (cc: InferenceRouter) → DO's product velocity is increasing. Every. Single. Month. → AI ARR up 221% YoY (Q1 26) → 81% of it from inference and core cloud — production workloads, not GPU landlording. (Q1 26) I've seen this movie before. At Vercel, we grew from a few dozen people to hundreds, scaling revenue hand over fist — all because we knew that when developers get the right abstractions, they ship great software, fast. The pattern is always the same: the winning platforms give builders products that are tightly integrated, application-aware, and thoughtfully designed. Arif Gangji liked thisArif Gangji liked thisNobody knows where the AI bus is going. David C. Baker said it at Vistara in Austin this week. No map. No destination. Just.. get on. I went to Austin to learn from the speakers. But the most real conversations happened on the side. Dinner tables. Hallways. Between sessions. Agency owner after agency owner asking me the same thing: “Where do we even start with AI?” And I kept saying the same thing back: Just build something. Use Lovable . Don’t overthink the tools. Not Claude. Not a full stack. Not perfect. Just.. something real that works. Some looked skeptical. Some pulled out their phones right there. That gap.. between the ones who move and the ones who wait.. that’s what separates where agencies will be in 2 years. I went there to learn. I came back reminded of something I already knew. The best way to get on the bus.. is to just sit down. Stop asking where it’s going. In 2004 Shahera and I started @sj innovation with no roadmap. We just moved. That’s still the only strategy that works. David said it best: “Get on the bus.. so you’re on it when it arrives.. wherever that is.” Austin was special this year. The side conversations were better than the sessions. CASA volunteers are appointed by judges to watch over and advocate for abused and neglected children, to make sure they don’t get lost in the overburdened legal and social service system or languish in inappropriate group or foster homes. Volunteers stay with each case until it is closed and the child is placed in a safe, permanent home. For many abused children, their CASA volunteer will be the one constant adult presence in their lives.
