Competitor research usually gets used backwards. Teams pull it to find what's working for someone with ten times their budget, then build a smaller version of it. Same claims, less credibility, less money behind it. That's how you end up paying a premium to blend into your own category. The useful output is the opposite of a swipe file. Not what everyone is saying, but what nobody has said yet. And most of the inputs are free. Their traffic profile is public, their tech stack is public, and their entire LinkedIn ad library sits one click off their company page. An afternoon gets you a real read on ten competitors. What comes back is a saturation problem you can see. The same handful of claims repeated across everyone, which means none of them are landing for anyone. Then the lane nobody has taken. Five checks we run before any campaign build. #LinkedInAds #B2BMarketing #LinkedInStrategy #DemandGeneration #Impactable

Most B2B teams run paid search like a vocabulary exercise. They sell LinkedIn Ads services, so they bid on "LinkedIn Ads." That's the expensive version. Educational searches, premium CPCs, people who want to learn rather than buy. Better is bidding with an intent modifier. LinkedIn Ads agency. LinkedIn Ads management company. Words that tell you someone is shopping for a solution, not information. The best version is narrower still. Look for searches that reveal fit, not just intent. "LinkedIn Ads HubSpot conversion tracking" tells us three things at once. They advertise on LinkedIn, they run HubSpot, and they have data they're trying to fix. That's not a lead we have to qualify. That's our buyer describing themselves in a search bar. Thirty searches a month can beat three thousand. Still the best money in the account. Your positioning didn't get weaker. The category caught up. That's the thing a one-time competitor analysis can't show you. The claim was genuinely differentiated when you made it. Then it started working, competitors noticed, and the language spread until it read as category boilerplate. Nothing about your messaging changed. Its value did. So the deep dive runs quarterly. In between, a monthly alert on competitor pricing, positioning, or new offers takes ten minutes to set up. When did you last check whether your differentiator is still differentiated? Before you launch a single cold LinkedIn campaign, we want to know what warm traffic you already have. It's the first question on every kickoff call. Website visitors, company page visitors, warm email lists. Those pools get way more traction than cold, and most teams skip past them because launching cold feels like the real work. Upload the lists. Use LinkedIn's filters to qualify them down to the people who match your ICP. Start there. Then, before you touch native cold filters, build account lists outside of LinkedIn first. Cold LinkedIn targeting is where you go when you've run out of warmer options. Not where you start. Over half the discovery calls we run bring up competitors. Almost nobody can tell us what those competitors are actually running on LinkedIn. That gap costs money. If you can't see which angles your category has flooded, you're paying to say what five other companies are already saying. On August 12, Justin Rowe and JD Garcia are running the competitor white space process live: → How to pull competitor ads and see how long each one has been live → Where your category is saturated, and which claims nobody has taken → Why the ad that's been running longest is often the worst one to copy → The positioning plays most B2B categories fall into → What to do with the gap once you find it Save your seat by hitting the "Attend" button below.
Competitor White Space: How to Find Your Niche in a Crowded Market

This time tomorrow we will be pulling real competitor sets apart on screen. Competitor White Space, live at 10am Central. One hour, with an open Q&A at the end. Some of the markets on screen belong to people watching. They volunteered last week, we built their reports over the weekend, and tomorrow they get to see their own category mapped in front of an audience. Anonymized, so nobody knows whose is whose. Whether your market is crowded or nearly empty, the process is the same one and the hour covers both. Registration link is in the first comment. #Impactable #B2BMarketing #DemandGeneration #CompetitiveStrategy #LinkedInStrategy

You could keep reading posts about white space, ours included. Or you could watch the process actually run: real competitor sets on screen, from the first competitor pull to the overlap map to the positioning call, decided in real time. Sign up for our August 12th live event: ordnl.link/yD6zVBt
48 hours until we do this live. Heres whats happening Wednesday: real companies, real competitor sets, mapped on screen start to finish. The lanes everyone in a market is crowding into, and the gaps nobody will touch. Then positioning that actually holds up when you line it against 10 competitors instead of a guess. Some of the markets we're tearing down belong to people reading this right now. They volunteered, we built their reports, and Wednesday they get to watch their own category pulled apart in front of everyone. (𝘈𝘯𝘰𝘯𝘺𝘮𝘪𝘻𝘦𝘥, 𝘴𝘰 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘩 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳𝘴 🙂) If youve watched the clips these past two weeks and thought "𝘐 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘥𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘮𝘺 𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘬𝘦𝘵"... Wednesday is me doing it for you, on screen, for FREE. The exact process I run before spending a dollar on any account, from the first competitor pull to the positioning call. Aug 12, 10am Central, one hour, open Q&A at the end. Link in the comments.

Pull up 5 of your competitor's websites side by side and cover the logos. Can you tell who's who? I've done this exercise with clients in IT services, consulting, cybersecurity, marketing... and the answer is almost always no. Same headline structure, same three benefits, the identical "trusted by" wall. You could swap the logos and nobody would notice, including the buyers. And thats the part that should worry you. Because if YOU cant tell the players apart, the person choosing between you definitely cant. So they stop reading claims entirely and compare the invoice. You've been in a price war nobody declared. This clip is about how to actually stand out when your whole sector looks like this. Im walking through the full process live Aug 12. Link in the comments. (And if you want your market featured in one of the live teardowns, todays the last day to volunteer. Comment below with your company name and URL)

Differentiation is usually copyable. You find an angle, it works, and within two quarters three competitors are running a version of it. The exception is a position your largest competitor is structurally unable to take. Not unwilling. Unable, because claiming it would cost them the clients and margin their model depends on. Those positions exist in every crowded category, and most of them are visible on the leader's own pricing page. The slides cover four of them, and how to work backward from a competitor's commitments to find yours. Justin Rowe runs the full process live on Aug 12.
