This month we celebrate 35 years of Goode PR. What started as a business working solo from the spare room, with a filing cabinet in the wardrobe and a golden retriever that worked as a paper shredder, has grown and morphed over the years into a well-established communications consultancy that is now one of the oldest indy agencies in New Zealand. Reflecting back on the start-up years, I’m proud we’ve never strayed from our founding values to put people first over money and focus on great work for clients we respect. Some years ago the team developed the tagline “Goode people doing great things” and that’s a motto that still holds true and one we still work hard to deliver on every time. To all our current and past clients and staff, thank you. Here’s to being 35 years young!

We’re at the halfway mark, staging one of our most important annual campaigns for Diabetes NZ with Diabetes Action Month. It’s a campaign we’ve been proud to lead for a decade. Each year, we create a different theme – this time it’s all about Diabetes & Youth. We have been honoured to work with our client and a group of experts in the field to highlight the alarming rise of type 2 diabetes in young people. This week, Starship Hospital Paediatric Endocrinologist Dr Craig Jefferies appeared on The Detail to discuss this trend and tell us more about contributing factors like genetics, high-risk ethnic groups (Māori, Pasifika, and Asian), and exposure to high blood sugars in utero. It’s a topic all New Zealanders should know more about. Our thanks to RNZ and investigative reporter Guyon Espiner for sharing his personal experience living with type 1 diabetes and raising awareness of this chronic condition. Doctors and experts agree that early awareness and intervention are critical to supporting our young people and preventing long-term health complications. Such a fun morning with our client, Takapuna Beach Business Association, and TVNZ’s Breakfast! We were thrilled to see Terence Harpur, CEO of Takapuna Beach Business Association, and Nicky Partridge, owner of Street Organics, share all the exciting details about Taste of Takapuna with Lucy – celebrating a month of Takapuna’s vibrant and diverse hospitality scene this October. Takapuna’s hospitality scene continues to outperform, and this month-long event is an opportunity to celebrate all the local businesses for their hard mahi and dedication to their community. It’s been our pleasure getting to know Kiwi basketball player Dion as he steps into his new role as an ambassador for Diabetes NZ's One Million Minutes of Movement challenge. After being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes only a year ago, Dion has turned his journey into a platform to inspire others. From meeting young fans who also live with diabetes, to balancing the demands of professional sport with a 24/7 condition, and now as an ambassador for Diabetes NZ’s One Million Minutes campaign – he is a true role model for young people with diabetes. Diabetes NZ’s One Million Minutes of movement campaign launches this November – a nationwide challenge encouraging New Zealanders to get moving, raise awareness and collectively clock up one million minutes of movement. With funds raised going towards Diabetes NZ youth programmes, it was fitting that Dion’s story was told by student journalist and rising reporter Jordan Smith in the NZ Herald - https://lnkd.in/gAsjHmrP Join Dion and sign up to One Million Minutes here: https://lnkd.in/geywKsXf

When our client Princess Cruises told us about their newest partner to join the Princess Local Partnerships programme, we knew this was a story worth sharing. Te Kura Waka is a school dedicated to reviving and advancing indigenous celestial navigation, teaching navigators to use only the sun, moon, stars, swells and planets to guide their journeys across the ocean. With support from Princess Local Partnerships, Te Kura Waka will launch its first graduation voyage to Samoa next week, training the next generation of ocean voyagers. Launched in 2019 and funded by guest donations and Princess Cruises, Princess Local Partnerships is the only programme of its kind operated by a cruise line anywhere in the world, directly supporting local conservation and cultural heritage initiatives for long-term impact.
