Earlier I said that nvm makes -g installed binaries such as esy slower to startup but that was false. nvm affects shell startup time - one upfront cost per shell. Retweet to destroy fake news! Advice for anyone who’s interested: don’t worry about which technologies you need to learn to advance your career. You’re smart; you’ll figure it out. Instead, start by focusing on the problems you want to solve, and the things you want to build. The rest will follow. Good luck!

TDD paralyzes me. I’m all for writing tests early in the process — especially in library code. But I can’t write them before I *play*. I need to write a shitty draft and play with the behavior to understand what I really want. Then rewrite guided by tests.

Tests help me verify it works right. Playing lets me verify it *feels* right.

Writing tests too early creates inertia. I get attached to them because they help verify correctness. Throwing them away or disabling feels like a step back, or giving up. But during the design process, a step back often *is* what I want. I might be building the wrong thing.

Linters are there to help you find mistakes in your code. Not to torture you. If your linter tortures you, it’s not your fault (but might be your team lead’s). Look at every linting rule and think: “Does this rule <s>bring me joy</s> help me find bugs?” If not, TURN IT OFF.
