We have decided to reduce the list of required components in the composer.json for version 3. This will allow users to selectively upgrade non-core components as new major versions become available — something that cannot be done currently without releasing a new major version of the framework as well!
Currently, we know that zend-mvc and any components it requires will be in that list (and we have opened feedback on that front elsewhere); this issue is soliciting ideas on other components that may be considered core/required for basic MVC applications.
Again, the idea is we do not want or desire to ship all components, but rather the minimum useful set of components for a basic MVC application.
