The third version of the RESP protocol has many huge advantages over version 2. The biggest advantage is automatic parsing as associative key value arrays which have a perfect analog in PHP.
Right now for PhpRedis to produce nicely packaged replies for various commands we often have to implement a reply handler for each one. This does have the advantage of being extremely fast given we have so many custom handlers for each command, but it also requires thousands of lines of duplicated logic.
We probably need to this to be "opt in" to avoid subtle breaking changes for legacy users.
