Compatibility is checked
Some combinations are validated and auto-fixed (for example, Next.js as a frontend with a conflicting backend). The CLI warns you when it adjusts a choice.
Java backend
--backend=springboot generates a Spring Boot service as a separate Maven
project rather than an npm package. With a frontend selected you get a
frontend/ workspace and a backend/ Maven module; without one, the Java
project sits at the root and no package.json is written at all.
Because it runs on the JVM, the JavaScript-only parts of the stack do not apply, and the CLI narrows them for you:
| Option | With springboot |
|---|---|
--orm | jpa (relational databases) or none |
--auth | spring-security or none |
--api | rest or graphql — tRPC and oRPC cannot cross the language boundary |
--runtime | none |
MongoDB needs no ORM flag: the template wires up Spring Data MongoDB directly.
Building it needs JDK 21 and Maven. --install pre-fetches the Maven
dependencies when mvn is on your PATH, and tells you what to run when it is
not. From a generated workspace root:
npm run dev:frontend
npm run dev:backendFor the generated file layout, database variables and a step-by-step React + Spring Boot walkthrough, see Spring Boot (Java).
The Java package is a starting point
Generated sources live in com.example.app with groupId com.example.
Rename both to your own namespace before you build on them.

Presets
Named stack bundles you can start from and override: mern, next-fullstack, react-vite, express-api and react-springboot, plus your own custom presets.
Spring Boot (Java)
Generate a Spring Boot 3 backend on Java 21 alongside a React, Next.js or Vue frontend — with Spring Data JPA, MongoDB, Spring Security, REST or GraphQL.
